Choosing Laminate Or Hardwood For A Kitchen Floor

by Marvin Carroll

There is no doubt that the flooring in your kitchen can make a big difference in the way it looks and feels. There are countless option for flooring in the kitchen, but hardwood floors and laminate flooring seem to be some of the most popular options. Both of these options provide benefits and both of these options have negatives as well. In order to better decide which option is right for you, it is necessary to determine the differences between each of these flooring options.

1. Installation.

a. Laminate. Laminate is very simple to install. In many instances all that is required is to snap the pieces together. Other kinds of laminate may require you to glue them together or to the ground. The drawback is that these floors are considered to be floating and may shift if they are not installed correctly.

b. Hardwood. Hardwood is a little bit more difficult to install as it will require a lot of nailing and stapling. In order for the hardwood to stay in place, it must be nailed into the ground. The good thing is that the hardwood is more structurally sound because it is nailed in.

2. Appearance. For many people it is extremely hard to tell the difference between hardwood floors and a laminate flooring. The technology that is used to create the laminate flooring is so advanced that it can mimic almost any kind of hardwood flooring. Hardwood floors will have more of a unique look however, with knots and random grains that a laminate floor will not be able to mimic.

3. Maintenance and Cleaning.

a. Laminate. Laminate flooring is very easy to maintain and clean. Like many other floors, you can sweep, vacuum and mop to keep it clean and free of debris. This will also ensure that the floors last longer which is great since laminate flooring cannot be refinished.

b. Hardwood. Hardwood flooring is a little bit harder to maintain and clean. Special cleaning products must be used to clean the floor so that it does not become destroyed. They also tend to dent more easily. The benefit with hardwood is that you can sand down the floors and refinish them if they become destroyed.

These are just a few of the differences between laminate and hardwood floors. They are both great options that can make your kitchen look very inviting, warm and a place you want to be. Talk to a flooring company, like Alfa Decking & Floors, to learn more about these options.
