If you are in the construction business, you know offering something special to your clients can be the difference between getting the project and losing it. It is common to offer upgrades on flooring, paint or cabinetry. To stand out from the other contractors, find someone who does portable welding and offer their services to your client. You don't have to offer it for free or at a discounted price, just give them some ideas of what can be done and let them customize it to their liking.

Fencing or Railings

You could go to the local hardware store and purchase preformed sections of fencing or railings. However, show your clients a few custom designed rails. Have them imagine scrollwork or top pieces they can design themselves and see how interested they become. They can have the whole yard fenced in with custom fencing, use a gate that was specially designed or have railings around the porch, balconies and/or stairs. This can be especially handy when the client wants something of an unusual height.

Secure and Protect Outdoor Appliances

Air conditioning and heating units, and pool or spa pumps that are outdoors can become clogged with dirt, leaves and other debris blowing around in the yard. A special cage can be constructed that will house these appliances in such a manner as to allow air flow, but prevent unwanted particles from getting into them. In addition, if you have a cage around them, there is little to no chance of having them vandalized if you are not home for a day or two.

Custom-designed Furnishings

When someone has a house built, they usually have it finished in a way that will complement their furnishings. It is also common to purchase some new furnishings. A portable welding technician can create individual pieces. A nice table and chairs for outside made of iron, an intricately scrolled set of shelves or even a fancy headboard may be just the thing your clients would want.

When you are discussing different options with your prospective clients, offer them custom metalwork. They may want to have a built-in grill installed in the cement of the patio or have fancy grillwork put in the first floor windows for added security. If you have only used portable welders for commercial or industrial fabrications, it is time to think again. Metal workers can also do intricate, fancy, special fabrications to fit in a home.
