How To Boost Your Home's Curb Appeal In An Afternoon

by Marvin Carroll

If it's your first spring in the home you purchased and you've noticed there are some updates that could be made to the outside of the home, you don't have to spend a ton of money to make it look great. There are a few easy things you can do to improve the curb appeal a great deal without dishing out a ton of money.

The outside of your home is the first thing everyone is going to see, so you'll want to consider making the following updates to create a great exterior appearance.

New Mulch

The look of new mulch is going to make the yard look rich, and it's going to bring color around your home. You should kill all of the potential weeds that are growing through the existing mulch around the home, or in areas where you want to put mulch, and then start to spread the new materials.

If there is no mulch and you want to add it, remove the top layer of soil and grass. Pat the area down and then put down landscape fabric before adding the mulch. This looks great around sidewalks and around the house. There are many mulch stains to choose from at a local retailer.

Paint Exterior Features

Most shutters can easily be removed from the home with a ladder and a screwdriver. A can of spray paint designed for exterior materials is all you need to make the shutters look new again, and you can change the color. You also want to paint the trim around the door and front porch of the home. If you have wood windows, paint the window frames as well.

A can of exterior paint isn't costly and will bring new life to the exterior of the home. If you have exterior lighting like lanterns, coat these with new paint as well.

Trimmed Greenery

Make sure all of the bushes around the home are trimmed, along with the grass. This is going to make everything look orderly and well-groomed, which indicates you care about the appearance of your home.

Potted Flowers

Some bright and cheery potted plants or flowers on your front porch or on both sides of the door is a great way to bring color to the yard. It also makes the entrance to your home very appealing.

There are a lot of different benefits to enhancing the curb appeal around your home. You can spend one afternoon to make the exterior look great.
